Darren's visit

On Wednesday Darren came for lunch and we chatted for a few hours, catching up on a lot of lost time. He is stage manager at the show Optimism which we went to on Saturday night, but not only wasnt it our sort of show, I felt really unwell by half time, that we went home.
Having a chest xray tomorrow.

Narrabeen

We drove around the Narrabeen Lakes toward the beach. Stopped off to look at the surf and there were lots of surfers, with the beach patrol getting ready to have lessons, I presume in surf rescue.

Losar - Tibetan New Year 2137

I often look under 'Events' for upcoming items of interest and this was one of them. Come and join the Tibetan community at Oxford Falls in the activities of the day. There was food, dancing and singing and we really enjoyed ourselves but the weather was not kind and began to drizzle. After the tradition by all standing and of throwing flour in the air to welcome the New Year in, we left.

National gallery of Aust.

We drove to Canberra yesterday starting very early - 7am and stopped at Goulburn for a break. We arrived about 11 at the gallery but then it was a job to find a parking space. John always seems to be lucky and we found a parking bay, all day, behind the old Parliment House.

For 3 hours we took in the exhibition - Masterpieces From Paris which is on for 4 months at the National Gallery of Australia. www.nga.gov.au We liked most of the paintings and to see them from just 3 feet away was fantastic - Van Gough, Gauguin, Cezanne and lots more. We drove back through Collector (John wanted to see it) and disappointment, as it was just a general store and a pub,so lunch was on at Goulburn and then home after an over 500 km drive.

Seniors Card

We at last received our Senior cards which have lots of benefits, transport fares being the main one. I can travel on most transport all day on one ticket for $2.50.

Centerlink

After an appointment at St George Bank, we had the pleasure of visiting Centerlink for the age pension. There were three sets of forms -34pages, 27 and 7. We filled out the first two correctly but the 3rd needed more paper work - ie passport etc. The guy said thats OK as now we had the process rolling and 'they' will contact us within 10 days.

BBQ

During the week we sent shopping for a bbq as the old one was rusting away and bits had fallen off. After going to quite a few shops we ended up at Barbques Galore down in Taren Point. We chose a 4 burner Beefmaster but the only model left was the floor one so we took that and it was deliverred on Friday. Used on Saturday when the ladies came for lunch to celebrate 4 birthdays - Alice, Norma, Shirley and Louises 50th.

Movie

John and I went to town on Friday to the movies to see - The Road. It was a good movie but disturbing and John said he didnt sleep well that night.

I had a quiet day Saturday doing odds and ends which John went to Rodney's for 5 hr lunch which meant that the next day was for relaxing. Although we did get into pruning the bottlebrush which is above the birds. Excellent cover but it was growing over the power lines plus over the fence into next door. Now the flowers will be bigger next year. The mens tennis finals were exciting as were the womens the previous day.

A visit to John's financial adviser went well on Monday and stopped to have lunch at Roselands.

Rip Currents

On Thursday we attended a free lecture on rips and how to recognise the signs of them and what to do. Look at site http://www.scienceofthesurf.com/ which is by Dr Rob Brander if interested. It was a facinating one and half hours of talk with lots of short movies seeing how the rips occur. In my 20's I was taken out by a rip on a northern beach, but as I kept a level head, I managed to go to the side and come back to shore.
