Australia Day

Guess who got dressed up for Australia Day? We strolled from Ramsgate along the beach front till almost Dolls Point then cut through the park for a sausage sandwich given away by the Scouts. We missed the main celebrations given by Rockale council but heard a country and western band play. There were lots of families having lunch or just having fun in the water.

Over four days, three movies

One day I went with the children (Julia and Nathan) from next door to Hurstville and saw The Tooth Fairy which was a typical young peoples movie but the main thing was to get them out of the house for one day at the end of their holidays.

Day two went with Margaret, same cinema, to see Avatar. Now that is a really really great movie and wouldn't mind seeing that again. Yesterday, as it was dull weather but hot, drove over to Eastgardens and saw Up in the Air which was just OK and am glad the tickets were given to us from Energy Aust.

John is still off and our getting used to be with being in each others company 24/7 is a learning curve. Today we went to join a club and the people were in their late 70/80s so we decided thats for us in a few years. So we tackled a garden job which you can see was to cut off the main fronds of two birds nest ferns as they were burnt by the sun. Between them, we will plant a tree fern which should establish itself before next summer and help protect them. The laundry water travels down a hose to these plants so the ground is excellent.

Relaxing

This past week has seen me at the movies - Sherlock Holmes and The Lovely Bones, I enjoyed the book better than the movie. Have spent a few hours a day in the garden as it has been too hot to spend any longer. I spent a little time over at Pats as Liz come over with Evan and Emily and was able to hold her. A visit to a financial adviser has me still unsure of what I should do and when I went to my doctor today, he gave me a very poor opinion of advisers and now I'm more confused. I am filling in the forms for the age pension and one question was when did we come to Australia and what ship and which port. After asking family, searched the ship's name thru Google which put me into archives of refugees and found the details. Very interesting. Last Friday night it was organised to have a retirement dinner at Bayblu, near Tom Uglys bridge. It was pleasant to see all my friends celebrate with me the passing of an era and the beginning of a new one. A short time after eating the entree and main meal, I didnt feel well and consequently lost most of it in the ladies. Even on the drive home John had to stop. I did feel OK the next day but I've put it down to having the rich sauce on the veal. I usually watch everything I eat but this time I thought I would celebrate, never again. I didnt take any photos but Norma did so I hope to get some from her

Late Christmas Gift

Guess who got their present today?

Mr Rudd's stimulus package

Last Sunday we drove over to DFO to spend the money Mr Rudd kindly gave each person earlier last year. We shopped, bought things, looked and had lots of fun. As one of John's shirts did not fit well, Monday saw us back there for an exchange to a larger size. The movies - Its Complicated - we saw at Miranda and enjoyed it as it was a laugh. But all too soon John's holidays were over and off to work he went this morning.
