Quiet weekend
No gardening this weekend as the thirty strawberry plants have survived and the three types of garlic are thriving; snow peas, lettuce, broccoli and spinich are growing well. A lot of reading and relaxing.

Sydney film festival
Today is the last day of the festival and I had the opportunity on Wednesday to go to the Dendy at Circular Quay. In total we saw three movies, Un Secret and The Orphanage and the third was part of the festival - Up the Yangtze. They were in French, Spanish and a mixture of Chinese and English. Helen and Shirley came for the first two and then Shirley stayed and Margaret came for the third. I had a wonderful day enjoying the movies and the company. Coffee after the movies at the Quay overlooking the harbour, bridge and Opera House; its a great setting. John went to the Food and Wine show on Saturday but they were disappointed with the venue, it was too crowded and the wines were just OK. As the sun was out today, I spent the afternoon in the garden gathering the weeds from around the vegatables and fruit after all the rains.

Queen's Birthday long weekend
John worked on Saturday and I did my normal chores. The weekend was wet alot of the time but did manage to spend a couple of hours today in the garden. 30 strawberry plants went in and there is plenty of room for the raspberries at the end of the month.

Sunday 1st June
This past week has been busy so the time has gone quickly and now its June already. I had a remedial massage at Calvary on Saturday and feel great. The rest of the weekend was quiet catching up with one thing and another. Went shopping for a heated towel rail and came back with a Shiatsu Massaging Cushion for the back.

This weekend
The ladies had afternoon tea at Shirleys and we were able to catch up with news. John went over to Rodneys to watch the Swans play and win. Today was a quiet day reading and then in the afternoon spent time in the garden, planting Russian garlic, Melbourne Market garlic and Australian white in the back veggie patch. This is the second year I have missed the Writers Festival, so will have to plan better next year. On Friday had to call the police as this persistant shop lifter keeps coming in. The chemist, Woolies manager and another store manager came in to identify him and the goods in his trolley. The police then had to handcuff him as he started to kick and tried to bite one of them. He will be back next week and we will have the same process again.

60th birthday
Today we headed to Miranda for clothes shopping and then saw the movie The Painted Veil which we enjoyed (that was using the last of the pre-purchased tickets). The Writers' Festival is on this week and Junot Diaz is speaking twice. Will try to get tickets, as now, very few venues are free as they have been in previous years. He is giving the closing address to the festival next Sunday at 6.30 in the city recital hall.
