Australia Day Weekend
Here is the sole hen looking into the veggie patch and wishing she
is in there with the great crop of tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber and egg plant. I spent a lot of Saturday and Sunday in the garden as after all the rain, the weeds went beserk, as did the lawn. John drove Margaret and I to Newtown on holiday Monday where we went to the Dendy and saw The Kite Flyer. It was a
wonderful
movie. We walked down the street and found a little Thai place and had an enjoyable lunch. John is better and will get results on Wednesday. I stayed up to watch the men's final and it turned out a really great tournament. This is now short week and then, after four working days, its one month of leave.

Sick, sick, sick
For almost three weeks John has had a stomach complaint which started off with drinking milk that was off (didn't notice as he puts in alot of pink Quik). Consequently our weekends have been very quiet. I did go for lunch to Sizzlers with the Greenacre ladies on Saturday. I have'nt been for years and years since when there were many of the resturants and now only about half a dozen in NSW left. The main thing was to get together and talk and food was of second importance. At work I was told by a customer that she wanted to be served by a man as they think better and are easier to deal with. This was said at the top of her voice and then as she was leaving she in a huff, said, women should be at home making apple pies. Again there was a lot of laughter among the other customers.

Hot and Humid
Theres fires in Western Australia, cyclone in Darwin and rain and flooding down the east coast of Australia. All beaches down the coast till Cronulla have been closed due to extra rough seas. Here its hot and humid and probably a storm tonight. Being a Dendy member, there was a special screening of Lust, Caution this morning at the Quay. It was an excellent Chinese movie with sub titles. Later we walked up George Street, thru Queen Victoria building (lunch) and up to Hyde Park. The Sydney Festival is on and there were many tents, seats and barricades for the various bands playing in the evenings.

First day of 2008
We watched both lots of fireworks, at 9 and at midnight, and then couldn't sleep. Today we went off to Newtown as we wanted to catch one more movie - 2 Days in Paris - but you wouldn't believe it, the cinema was sold out. Window shopped as most shops were open.

Boxing Day
Christmas is over for another year. This year is the first time we have been on our own for many many years. The weather was cold, so all those people having a hot dinner were luckly but we had a lovely seafood lunch with a very nice bottle of champagne at home. Today we drove to Cronulla and walked along the walkway until the wind sent us home.

Christmas outings w/e 9th Dec
Eating out twice this weekend. Went to Star City casino for work's Christmas party and the food was ok - typical smorgshboard
.
Everyone came and after the meal, some had a flutter on roulette. Marlene lost her $20 but Christian won $80. Today, we drove to Bulli Tops - Panorama House for the manager's Christmas outing. Nice meal, but wine was not good, in fact John drank squash - he, luckily, was the driver today. On the home front - we now have only one hen left as two died (old age). John said he would get more next weekend. The cockatiels have been sitting on dud eggs, so I took out the nesting box and will replace it in a couple of weeks after the birds put on weight again.
